Everyone knows Harlow House is the star of the show on these grounds, but our lovely flower and veggie garden is sure to brighten your day!
Our community garden was started in 2014 by volunteer Bonnie Albright in a small patch on the side of the house. Today, it occupies nearly 300 square feet of the spacious back lawn! The garden includes kale, chard, beans, and chili peppers, as well as lavender and rosemary bushes (bees’ favorites) to promote pollination. There is even a small patch of catnip for Marley!
Who’s up for some kale? We are in California after all! Hot cha cha chili peppers!
Each weekend, we welcome volunteers to help us tend the garden. Our regulars include Sam, Hattie, and Ana Maria. On the first Saturday of every month, we also welcome our community neighbors to come harvest the garden. We donate most of our fresh produce to the local food bank to help feed our community.
Last January, our volunteers picked 14,000 pounds of oranges from our 14 Navel Orange trees. Now that’s a lot of OJ!!

Our next Community Garden Day is Saturday, November 3. Bring a hat, a picnic lunch, and of course a basket to take home all your goodies. See you then!!
